Our HIV / AIDS Program:"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, in as
much as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethern, ye have done
it unto me.” Through God's message of Love, Hope and compassion, we will bring spiritual
enrichment and support services to persons infected and affected by the HIV
Epidemic. And promote behavioral change by providing prevention strategies. Our HistorySince its inception in 1990, the HIV/AIDS Program has had an impressive history of providing social services to residents West Columbia / Columbia areas. The program began by providing voluntary caregiver assistance to individuals infected with HIV, who were without adequate support systems. Over the past ten years, we have evolved from a single focused ministry to our present focus that now includes expanded services such as: HIV education, peer educator training and certification, community outreach, HIV testing and counseling. In 1999 the program was awarded a federal grant to develop a comprehensive HIV Prevention Program. This program, The Women’s Prevention and Counseling Program, provides a spiritual approach to behavior change and is a collaborative effort between the HIV/AIDS Ministry and the Substance Abuse Ministry of the Brookland Foundation. HIV/AIDS PROGRAM RECEIVES GRANTThe HIV/AIDS Program has received a $2,500 grant through the US Department of Health & Human Services to provide basic HIV 101 training and involve more churches in HIV initiatives. The first training was held on March 8, 2003. Part two will be scheduled for later this year.
